From sketchbook to canvas
June 9th will see my return to The Albany Gallery in Cardiff. I shall have 41 new works on show and have the company of talented ceramist Paul Wearing.
My new works focus on a small but significant spot in and around North Pembrokeshire. Due to the failing health of my lovely old dog I found myself restricted in my creative endeavours. However with the help of friends at Pentower in Fishguard who offered accommodation for me, Josh and a place to paint. Aided also by some glorious weather, what initially seemed a major problem to overcome became the best of times for us both. The paintings were created from early September 2016 through to April 2017 and It's fair to say that the new works in essence illustrate our playground. A place we could walk (very slowly) and share (food and sunsets) what time we had left. It's a very, very happy place. The ol pooch made it through to March this year with a happy and dignified conclusion.
Illustrated here is a vital part of the process.. drawing, thinking and feeling... from sketchbook to canvas.

Hello... I have a selection of 6 new and recent works coming up on show commencing 16th March.
It's been quite a while since I've shown in my home county, so I'm really looking forward to this.
I'll post more information next week but here is a flavour of what to expect from me.
Other exhibiting artist are quite fabulous and I feel very lucky to be sharing some space alongside.
The venue is Deene Park, Deene and hidden in the scruffy ol wilds of Northamptonshire. A packed lunch, wellies and compass maybe be useful... But well worth the effort I can assure you
Here is a piece I finished framing today and will available to view at Deene

Hello
This is my first painting complete for 2017. It feels like a pretty good start to work in what will be a busy year. I have some nice things lined up for the months ahead... and what I can tell you now is that there will be solo exhibitions from me in Cardiff in June and at Holt during September 2017. They really are favourite months for me to show my work and at two lovely venues. I feel very very lucky. I am also working on new paintings from around my home in Northamptonshire. Personal circumstances are not allowing me to drift further afield as was originally planned. However I am taking the opportunity to focus on the beautiful landmass surrounding me. It's been a while coming and I'm really looking forward to it. Illustrated above is one such piece and it depicts a favourite walk for me and the Joshthedog at Sywell Country Park.
I'd also like to thank you for supporting me here by either browsing, commenting, visiting my exhibitions and of course purchasing my work. You really have no idea how thrilled I get when works are sold.. ( It's a bit sad maybe at my age... but there you go:) Sales indeed allow me to keep on painting and doing the thing I love. So thank you very much and I plan to keep at it if that's ok with you.
Here's wishing you a happy and healthy 2017... and do keep in touch.
Cheers
Chris

Climate control
It's that time of year. The weather has been grey cold and wet. So to buck the trend here's some cheer. When things outside are grim I tune up the colour contrast and seek warmth. It looks a bit like this!
This painting along with 7 new Prouts shall be on offer at Bircham Gallery in Holt from 3rd December for their festive extravaganza! Don't miss out!

Breathe in.......... and .......
I did a spot of sketching at a favourite location of mine. I love the speed and simplicity of line and wash. One can record so much information in rapid time. It's a fun and really relaxing way to unwind after a busy and hot week.

Topiary art
This week I've been working on scaling up a recent study panel inspired by the
Pembrokeshire coast. I'm really happy with this... and as you can see I use all manner of tools to make my marks. Some say my art is cutting hedge stuff.
