Ahem...

Hi... It has been a while but I'm back to say hello.. :-)

Thursday 10 October 2019

Happy..

I'm delighted that this piece has found a home. It's one of my favourite personal pieces of 2019 and a joy to paint. I generally have no idea who purchases my work for they are sold through galleries.
So I  think it timely to say that if you do own a 'Prouting' new or old, I'm incredibly grateful.
It really is a treat to own original art and wonderful supporting living ones!
I feel very lucky, thank you very much.

Did I mention??

This past six month I have been quietly been working away on a major commission.
Based on the theme of 'Season's' and using the landscape of Northamptonshire as my muse. I have produced a seasonal palette of mood. shapes, shadow and colour.

The journey has been fun and I'm very, very pleased with the results. Of the 31 pieces painted, 16 have been selected by my client.  I do hope they see the light of day and that I'm able to share them with further... However, for now, here's a snifter... and I shall keep you informed of further developments.

The piece illustrated here is based on the month of April.
Think of warm spring sunshine and walking in a bluebell wood. Sappy colours, fresh earth and the promise of long warm days ahead..

Inspirational pork pie...

On a sublimely hot day during August past, I took to the hills. I aimed the car due North and found myself in Derbyshire. And after walking miles and miles, high and low I rested alongside a riverbank. Kissed by dappled light and a cool breeze I sat, sketched and tucked into a pork pie ( with pickle..: ) From those moments of enjoyment, observation and reflection I reminded myself of 'That's how you make a painting Chris.'
So I did, and here it is.

Tuesday 20 November 2018

It has been a while...

The past years have been extremely busy in studio Prout. My business has grown and grown and my paintings now get displayed all over the UK and beyond. Travelling around the UK developing my works from new locations is great fun though in fairness tiring too.. And with that in mind, earlier this year it became quite apparent that I was neglecting my home patch. So, I've decided to address that issue.

It was most timely to be approached by new Galleryists Lovelock Millar to exhibit recent and new works at the beautiful Boughton House in dear ol Northamptonshire... ( And just 10 minutes from my front door!) So, how chuffed am I? Very! It been nearly 5 years since my last significant public showing of paintings in the county.

At Boughton House, 'll be sharing this 'pop up' event with talented landscape painter Zoe Taylor, sculpture by Rachael Higgins and stylish ceramics by Melanie Keevil and Jewels Williams Peplow. It will make for an enjoyable body of works displayed in the splendid Tapestry suite and we share this festive event with Boughton House who will be retailing Christmas Trees, gifts cake, coffee and cheer.

It seems a fitting time for me to reappraise the local lifescape in the midlands and nearer to home. This strikes me as a pretty good start and I'm very much looking forward to the coming months ahead too.

Illustrated above is a new painting of Grafton Underwood.
I vividly remember preparing drawings on site for this piece. It was a perishingly cold March morning.. even my pencil lead froze. It was uncomfortable but worthwhile and a very enjoyable painting to do..:-)

Going for a song...

Hello All ..
This week will see our small village rallying folk to fundraise and help support our amenities. The weekend of the 8-9th September our church will be smothered in flowers, bunting will be strung, cakes will be baked and a possy of flower festival enablers will be at full tilt. Arms and legs will be crossed for fine weather and that interested visitors support too...: )
Our spot of green landmass in Northamptonshire is really tiny.. Just about 400 of us and quite a few dogs, so donations are hard earned. My personal offering is to donate this new painting of our village Church. It really would be great to raise a little to get things moving... and all proceeds of a sale of the framed original painting will go to our Flower Festival funds.
The painting ( illustrated here ) has been painted in acrylic on panel is 25 x 20cm in size. It's also presented in a bespoke hand painted frame. 'It would lovely in your living room... Honestly!'
The fun auction is open to all... If you would like to make a bid please leave a message on my Facebook page stating your interest and amount. I'll will also include Free postage delivery within the UK. Elsewhere at cost.

www.facebook.com/chrisprout.artist.painter

'If I know you'... I'm happy to take telephone bids... I do realise some folk are not so social media happy.
The auction is open now and will conclude at 7pm on Thursday 6th September 2018

Cheers
C

A Welsh rare bit..

As I walked out one mid summer morning...

Some weeks back when our usually green and pleasant land was scorched and parched I took myself for a wander to the Peak district. The plan was to record and enjoy the day. I pitched up in Rowsley armed with sketchbook and pencil, an open mind and an iron lung. I walked for nearly 6 hours on a hot and dusty collecting visual reference points of interest and using the river Wye as my walking companion and guide. Lots of drawing was done and in the following weeks I painted 10 new works which will be on show at Gallerytop during September 2018

Illustrated above is one of the works. A view through the trees and along the Wye to Chatsworth..
A lovely walk at anytime of year..

You saw it here first..

The past umpteen months have been a wonderfully creative time. My work along with my thinking about the works I produce are evolving. They are becoming more mature and allowing me to be bolder yet more minimal. I am very much enjoying the process.

Illustrated here is an example of the new way forward.

New from the West

On a recent trip to Solva, Pembrokeshower, it was very much a case of four seasons in one day. The west benefits from the most wonderful of landscape but also endures the most erratic weather. However being a painter of ‘atmospherics’... it appeals to me very much!
There is a coastal path walk from Solva to St David’s that is dramatic, dynamic and will truly make your eyes water.. though my knees were knocking so hard I’m sure they could be heard back in Northamptonshire! It’s well worth a trip.. Back at base camp however is the most beautiful of ports.. and it has it all. A huge sea, a massive sky and a clearing to watch the weather arrive.
Illustrated here is a moment before the rain, then the sun, then the wind then a high tide and so on..

This new painting along with five others from the studio will be at the summer exhibition in Cardiff at the lovely Albany Gallery, very soon.

Pasture's new maybe

It is always good and healthy to look, reconsider and refresh.
Hence I'm considering an additional framing style for my artworks. My current presentation moulding is successful and much loved. I'm sure you've witnessed quite a few times... So, here is another I have in the works.. I wonder what you think?

Green fingers

This time last year I started work on a really enjoyable commission at Packington Hall, Warwickshire. I was given the opportunity to roam the Capability Brown designed grounds of this beautiful estate. Attached here are a couple of the finished works.
Grounds and gardens are a rich source of visual intrigue for me. Gardens of course are works of art in themselves, formed and nurtured like a painting from brush to canvas. Both take time to evolve and both require a journey of a lifetime to master and enjoy.

New

Although there are no solo exhibitions planned for me this year.. (I really, really need a rest) there is much on going in StudioProut. I shall be supplying my galleries with fresh stock and indeed I continue to take part in smaller mixed artist exhibitions and charity events throughout 2018

Illustrated below is a new piece produced this week. This kind of work helps me get back in the rhythm of painting once again... aiding the brain bone to reconnect to finger bones.
